The CNC is running. Why is the order late?

Separate machining from setup, tool changes and waiting. Read the finished part with its inspection result and tooling record.

What the production total leaves out

A cycle counter does not describe the whole machining shift. Fixture preparation, tool changes, inspection waiting and faults can all extend the job. MES keeps those records with the product and order.

Setup and faults need different owners

Recorded reasons turn “machine stopped” into a task. Fixture and tool preparation may need a method change; material waiting belongs with planning; an equipment fault needs maintenance. One downtime total hides those differences.

When comparing two runs of the same part, consider planned time and preparation conditions. A short order with a long setup should not automatically be treated as poor cycle performance.

What changed when the tool changed?

Tool assignment and use records help identify which tool and production job were associated with a dimensional issue. Compare the inspection result with earlier runs of the same part to see when the change first appeared.

After a tooling or maintenance action, review a comparable job again. A closed work order records completed work. The next inspection and downtime records show whether the original dimensional issue or stop recurred.

The program is unchanged, but the recorded loss is different.
